The French Throwdown is evolving: end of the Beginner Individual category and expansion of Beginner Teams for 2026

For its 2026 edition, the French Throwdown is changing its category structure to offer an even more tailored and enjoyable competition experience for athletes new to CrossFit. After several years of observation, analysis, and discussions with the community, the Beginner Individual category is being replaced by an expanded Beginner Teams category. This will allow beginner athletes to enjoy a more accessible, reassuring, and much more friendly competition experience as part of a team!

Why this change?

1. To encourage a more fun, collaborative environment

The feedback from our community is clear:

Beginner athletes thrive when they are surrounded, supported, and led by their teammates. In a team, the pressure is off and the experience on the floor becomes, above all, a moment of sharing.

2. Promoting progress through teamwork

The team format allows:

Levels to be balanced within a team of four, mutual support, overcoming difficult moments together and pushing oneself further in a safer environment.

The goal is simple: to guide beginners toward success, rather than confronting them alone with the demands of individual competition.

3. A competition experience more suited to beginners

Team WODs allow for: a better distribution of effort, reduced stress and a more fun experience without compromising the athletic challenge.

Because the French Throwdown remains a demanding competition, we want to offer beginners a format that puts them in the best possible conditions.

Teams Beginner: an expanded and upgraded category for 2026

To support this transition, the Teams Beginner category will be one of the highlights of the 2026 edition: more places available, tests adapted to the team format,

A program designed for fun as well as challenge,

an atmosphere fueled by group energy.

We want beginner athletes to be able to say to themselves:

“I can do this. With my team, I can do it.”

A format designed for fun, progress, and team challenges!

At French Throwdown, we have always wanted to reflect what makes our community strong: camaraderie, solidarity, and the desire to push ourselves together.

The transition from Beginners to an exclusively team format is a step in this direction: more fun, more support, more memorable moments to experience and share.
